Houshold Hygine, Rubbish and Recycling

Household Hygine, Rubbish and Recycling

You have responsibilities to each other as housemates to keep your property clean and tidy; you will also prevent any unwelcome guests such as mice, rats, slugs or insects if you maintain a clean house.

Cleaning

It makes things a lot easier then it comes to moving out if you can keep your house clean and tidy throughout the whole year rather than having a mammoth task to clean it at the end!

If would be appreciated it you can try and keep things quite tidy during the letting season (around December - February) when prospective tenants are looking around; we know it can be hard sometimes but the better your house looks, the fewer viewings will be required to find new tenants so we can disturb you as little as possible.

Please note that we do have the authority to send cleaners into the property (at a cost to the tenants) if required.

Drains

If you put fat or food residue down your drains they will quickly become blocked and you may have clear this by hand or we may have to call out contractors to clear any blockages.

Similarly, toilets are not designed to dispose of sanitary towels, tampons or condoms, so please don’t flush them. Any call outs relating to blocked drains due to misuse may result in charges to tenants.

Washing Machines & Dryers

If you leave things in the pockets of clothes that you wash like coins or tissues, these may cause blockages in your washing machine or dryers and cause them to stop working so please check your washing first and make sure you regularly check the filters are clear.

N.B. If we have to pay contractors to clear any blockages as outlined above, you may be charged.

Rubbish Collections - General

It is your responsibility to use suitable bins within and outside your home to store your rubbish and then present it to be collected by the appropriate waste collection providers on the correct day.

If you live in a block, there will be posters in your building advising where rubbish is to be stored; you will not need to present these bins to be collected; that will be done for you.

If you live in a house, the council will only  take your rubbish or recycling if you present it on the road for collection. If you are provided with bins then you MUST use these and not leave any waste outside of them.

If you have been provided with a wheelie bin, and/or recycling containers, you must present your rubbish and recycling in these bins only. If you are missing these containers, please contact your local council who will provide you with replacement bins. If the bins go missing, you may be charged for their replacement.

If your bins are full, there are often communal overflow bins located within your local area, please use these. At no point should you illegally dump any rubbish.

If you have waste which won't fit in your bins (bulk waste), you can book a bulky waste collection with the council; if the council miss a collection, you should report this to them; links for both are below:
