Safety Concerns – Selly Oak

There have been a number of press reports and social media comment about muggings and robbery in Selly Oak over recent weeks.

Here at Purple Frog the safety of our tenants is a top priority so we’ve been discussing the issues with our student tenants, representatives from the University and the local Police to see what they are doing about the issue.

There have been a number of incidents reported to Police over recent weeks which appear to have been sensationalised by some news outlets who have claimed that crime has rocketed in the area recently. West Midlands Police have issued a statement showing the crime statistics for the area which have remained static.

We do however appreciate that any reports of crime can be unnerving so we’ve purchased 100 attack alarms which are available from our Selly Oak office for any of our tenants who would like to feel safer on the streets.

There is some very simple advice which we also suggest our tenants follow to make sure they stay safe, wherever they live:

Burglaries: Lock your windows, doors and gates. Most burglars obtain access through unlocked doors!

Robbery: Don’t walk home at night by yourself and don’t display your valuables.

Vehicle crime: Don’t live items on display and remember to lock your doors.

Alcohol: Don’t drink more than you can handle and make sure to stay with your mates and look out for each other.

How do you feel about Purple Frog?
