When you move in, make sure you take a note of the gas and electric meter readings (usually downstairs towards the front of the house and are sometimes outside – if you get stuck, you can ask us or your landlord).
Once you’ve got these, you've got two options.
My Student Bills is a price comparison site dedicated just to students to find you the cheapest gas and electricity prices for your house. Click here to start comparing, once you've selected who you want to use, they'll even contact you to arrange everything, they will need your meter readings then too so make sure you keep them handy.
2 Use your existing suppliers
If you're happy to sort it all yourself, you'll need to find out who your suppliers are if you don’t already know by looking at old bills. If you call the numbers below and explain you’ve just moved in and need to find your supplier, they’ll help you out:
|
Gas |
0870 6081 524 |
|
Electricity |
0845 6030 618 |
|
Water (Nottingham and Birmingham) |
0845 7500 500 |
|
Water (Bristol) |
0845 702 3797 |
When you’ve found your suppliers give them a call to open an account using your meter readings; from then every so often they’ll send you a bill to divide up amongst yourselves.
You’ll
also need to get some broadband and TV; check out our Virgin deal by following
the link above and don’t forget to pay for a TV licence (www.tv-1.co.uk)...
