Student Accommodation Bristol
Bristol
is a vibrant City full of life, history and heritage. You can walk from
a musical at the
Bristol Hippodrome
to a student bar on
Park Street,
walk from the
Clifton Suspension
Bridge to
Bristol Zoo
and take a trip back through time on
Brunel’s SS Great
Britain before splashing the cash at
Harvey Nicks
in
Cabot Circus
and then of course there’s the nightlife...
Both the
University of the
West of England
and the long standing
Bristol University
have a strong foothold on certain parts of the community but the mix of
students and residents works perfectly.
Below are some ‘good times’ and some ‘not so good times’ of the most
populated student areas of
Bristol
to help you along with your property search... |

|
Clifton
|
good times |
not so good times |
|
Most sought after location for students in Bristol! |
Accommodation and living costs can be expensive. |
|
Clifton offers all the best and most unique bars, pubs and restaurants
in Bristol. The very best are hidden away and few people discover them,
so stray away from the mainstream and go and find them! |
Prices in Clifton are definitely more expensive than other areas and
with so many students flocking to Clifton, it can get crowded and noisy
– but this creates a buzzing atmosphere! |
|
Transport links are numerous – Bristol University is located right in
the heart of Clifton so many students walk. There are fab bus links in
and around town and out to UWE as well as Clifton Down railway station
right on Whiteladies Road. |
Parking is a slight nightmare in and around Clifton! If you don’t need
your car or prefer it to have 2 wing-mirrors then maybe leave it at
home! |
Cotham
|
good times |
not so good times |
|
Students everywhere! This is where the majority of Bristol University
Students live. Great atmosphere and a real ‘campus’ feel! Everyone
wondering around in Jack Wills and flip flops! |
Can be a little bit noisy and busy at 4am! |
|
Cotham is a slightly quirkier and more laid back version of Clifton. It
boasts relaxed and chilled-out bars with lots of cheeky takeaways and
organic deli’s! You can eat around the World if you look hard enough. |
Too much choice can be the only negative to this! |
|
Transport links are numerous – Bristol University is located nearby as
are the local hospitals so lots of hot doctors and nurses passing
through! Many students walk to the Triangle and Whiteladies Road is
seconds away. |
Parking is pretty dreadful around Cotham but it’s always fun jamming
your car into a shoebox space! |
Redland
|
good times |
not so good times |
|
A quieter, more ‘grown-up’ student area. |
Accommodation can be hard to find as this is more of a residential area. |
|
The biggest draw to Redland is its proximity to The Downs – a lush
expanse of green where Uni sports matches are played, picnics are eaten
and calories are burned! |
A more family orientated, mature feel which can lead to more complaints
about student noise! |
|
Located a few minutes’ walk from Whiteladies where there are more bus
stops than people! Can walk to Uni, town and the Zoo! |
Parking is again an issue! Easier not to have a car as you have to pay
to park at Uni and its hard to find a space! |
Gloucester Road
|
good times |
not so good times |
|
An alternative bohemian area where anything goes! A real mix of students
and graduates from both Uni’s. |
Accomodation is sought after and the standards can vary! |
|
Gloucester Road has a real eclectic mix of bars, restaurants and pubs.
Students love to head up here at the weekends and spend time in the
underground clubs until the early hours. |
I can’t think of any ‘not so good times’! There’s something for
everyone! |
|
Gloucester Road leads straight up to UWE so the transport links are fab!
Lots of students cycle because it is so close! |
Parking is easier in these areas but traffic on the Gloucester Road is
horrific! |
Bristol City Centre
|
good times |
not so good times |
|
Sandwiched right in the middle of everything! Walk to the Waterfront and
Cabot’s Circus in a matter of minutes. Save money getting around! |
Very noisy and busy and expensive!! Accommodation can be cramped and can
vary in niceness!! You may end up spending more money as you can just
nip out for a Starbucks! |
|
You have an amazing selection of areas to choose from to eat and drink
right on your doorstep, whatever the time of day! Try Magic Roll – the
healthier option to a greasy elephant leg at 3am! |
Busy and chaotic but this seems to suit some students who love to be
immersed in the hectic swing of city life. |
|
Transport links as you can imagine are fab and frequent! |
Parking in the city is nearly impossible without having to pay and
display! Having a car here is a definite no no! |
Fishponds
|
good times |
not so good times |
|
A quieter, less chaotic student area nicknamed ‘Fishponds Village’ for
its small town feel. Populated with UWE students who love the close
proximity to University. |
The area is not as nice as Clifton, Cotham, Redland but then the price
reflects this! |
|
Small local pubs and ‘one-off’ places to eat in Fishponds. Lovely little
local coffee houses to waste a morning. Lack of chain places which makes
the pace feel slower and makes you feel far from busy city life. |
Fishponds can end up feeling isolated and far from where things are
happening. |
|
Great transport links, lots of people cycle and run to Uni and out into
the country. Lots of people have their cars if they live here because
on-street parking is easy! |
Have to drive or travel to get anywhere! Nothing is really a walk-able
distance! |
Horfield
|
good times |
not so good times |
|
Located close to the Gloucester Road and even closer to Uni. Bristol
Rugby ground is here so there is a great atmosphere on match days! Lots
of students choose to live round here. |
Parking can be hard at the weekends when the rugby is on. Traffic is
also fairly horrible on the main road into town. |
|
The Gloucester Road is the place to head to grab a bite to eat or to
have a quick (or lots of) drink. There are a few local pubs in these
areas which are good for a Tuesday Night Pub Quiz! |
No actual proper shops or places to eat in Horfield. |
|
Great transport links on the main road into town and to Uni. Students
get on their bikes or take cars because parking is a doddle outside
their houses! |
Traffic is a slight nightmare during rush-hour times! |
